From The Desk of President
Dear Friends (Atamswaroops),
SELSI was born on 29th March 2008 with the philosophy of ancient teaching pattern of India i.e. “the Gurukul Parampara”, where guru treats all alike and transforms them to his equal with love, care and concern without any monitory considerations.
SELSI is unique in the sense that it has embraced in its fold all surgeons practicing Minimally Invasive Surgery like Gen Surgeons, Gynecologists, Urologists, Pediatric Surgeons, Surgical Oncologists and Gastroenterologists, so as to bring them on one common platform to share knowledge and skill amongst each other. SELSI realizes that unless surgeons practicing and serving at remote places are not provided with adequate training with preceptor and proctorship in Minimally Invasive Surgery, surgical discipline will not progress and the masses will not be benefitted. SELSI has proposed many training centres all over the country - 3 centres have already come into existence viz. Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Centre at AIIMS (New Delhi), Maurya Sachkhand Hospital (Agra) and Hanumant Endosurgery Centre (Lucknow). Many centres are in pipeline (Sushruta Surgical Centre at Patna will be starting very soon). All these centres are imparting training and skill in Gurukul Parampara.
In addition to training surgeons, SELSI has provision for the training of camera assistants (MBBS or Para-medical staff) who form one of the most important part of the Laparoscopic Surgical team. Apart from organinsing state, zonal and national conferences, SELSI is organizing “operating room workshops” at rural places where 10-15 surgeons can interact with the faculty and watch procedures inside the theatre so as to minimize the cost of audio-visual and other paraphernalia. Thus, surgeons catering to the masses may get trained by SELSI faculty at their own centres and at the same time masses will get awareness regarding the advantages of Minimally Invasive Surgery.
SELSI is not a money making body, but, an academic body of high standards meant for teaching and training of young surgeons with humane touch, with the vision of making them the true surgeons of future and cultivating in them the feeling that “the patient is none other than one's own self”.
I request you all to strengthen SELSI by becoming its life member, the fee for which is only Rs 1000/-. The SELSI membership has already crossed 1200 since its inception (March 2008).
With Kind Regards,
Your Own self,
Prof S D Maurya, President - SELSI
